About the Author:
Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888) was an American author famous for Little Women (1868), a semi-autobiographical novel about four sisters during the Civil War era, inspired by her own family in New England, including her transcendentalist parents, Amos Bronson and Abigail May Alcott. Alcott worked various jobs, including a Civil War nurse (which inspired Hospital Sketches), and wrote thrillers under a pseudonym, but became a beloved figure for her realistic portrayal of family life and her strong, independent female characters like Jo March, reflecting her own tomboyish nature and desire for freedom, despite never marrying.
